James (Jim) Smith Family
JAMES (JIM) SMITH

James "Jim" Smith was the fifth child of William and Rachel. He was married to Mildred Farr, and according to Ancestry records, together they had thirteen children: daughters Lucille, Evernell, Edna, Josie, and Willie Lee; and sons Clyde, Charley, Henry Charles (H.C.), Jessie Ray, twins Morris and Modies, Vernon, and Benjamin. Although not documented in census records, family folklore tells that they also had two additional children, James Jr. and Vera, whose lives were tragically cut short by a virus at a time when advanced medicine was not yet available.

The U.S. Federal Censuses of 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930 for Pinckney, Union, South Carolina, record Charles Farr and Mary Lindsay-Farr as married with children: Will, Mildred, Tom, Thedora (also Vestula), Henry, Burdell, Quinteen, Creola, Lynie, twins Beuford and Beulah and Foster.
